Gothia Cup 2015 – Tokyo Verdy B16

The Gothia Cup recently took place in the Gothenburg in Sweden on the 17th to the 23rd of July and Tokyo Verdy sent a Boys 16 side out to Europe

Here is the journey for the young Verdy side,

Tokyo Verdy were drawn in Group 1 with S Lannzarote (Spain), IFK Goteborg (Sweden) and IK Viljan (Sweden)

First game was against IK Viljan on Mon 13th July, Verdy ran out 3-0 winners, goals from Fujimoto Kanya, Omori Sho & Higashiyama Naoki

Second game was against S Lannzarote on Tue 14th July, it finished 0-0

Third Game was against IFK Goteborg on Wed 15th July, Verdy winning 1-0 thanks to Kitazawa Kai’s goal, Goteborg also had a man sent off in the 1st half

Tokyo Verdy B16 finished 1st in the Group – W 2, D 1, L 0, GD +4, Pts 7

Onto the play off –

First Round – Verdy B16 played Club Atletico Almafuerte (Arg) on Thur 16th July, Verdy won 6-0 thanks to goals from Kawada Ryota, Omori Sho, Kitazawa Kai, Fujimoto Kanya, Kashimura Reiji and Nakane Genki

Second Round – Verdy B16 played Orgryte IS (Swe) later on in the day on the Thur 16th July (evening), Verdy won 1-0 thanks to the only goal of the game from Higashiyama Naoki

Third Round – Verdy B16 played So Cal FC (USA) on Friday 17th July, Verdy won 2-0 thanks to goals from Morita Koki and Sugisawa Ryogo, so onto the quarter finals

Quarter Final – Verdy B16 played Entente Sannois Saint Gratien (France) on Friday afternoon, Verdy ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a Fujimoto Kanya goal, Verdy move onto the Semi Finals

Semi Final – Verdy played IFK Lidingo FK (Sweden) later on on Friday evening (3 games in 1 day), Verdy would run out 2-1 winners against the Swedish side, Verdy struck first with a goal for Kitazawa Kai in the 12th minute, but Jacob Holmberg got the Swedish side level on 62 minutes but 4 minutes later Nakane Genki scored the winning goal to send the Verdy B16 team into the final against IF FF Hammarby

Final – The Final took place on the Saturday, 18th July in the afternoon, Verdy ran out 4-1 victors against IF FF Hammarby, it all started so well for Verdy as Fujimoto Kanya scored in the 15th minute to make it 1-0, it was 2-0 just under 5 minutes later when Sugisawa Ryogo scord the 2nd goal, Olle Edlund reduced the defecate to make it 2-1 in the 25th minute but Kanya scored his 2nd goal of the game to seal it for Verdy, but Tori Shun made it 4-1 at the start of the 2nd half to seal the B16 Gothia Cup.
