Matchday 41 Review – Tokyo Verdy 1-2 Cerezo Osaka (2016)

Matchday 41 Review – Tokyo Verdy 1-2 Cerezo Osaka

Verdy lost their last Home game of the J2 2016 season by 2 goals to 1 against 4th place Cerezo Osaka, it really didn’t start off well at all for Verdy when Cerezo scored in under a minute – after Cerezo played the ball around, it was passed to Souza and he shot from about 40 yards out and the ball – Suzuki got a touch to the ball but he couldn’t stop it going into the back of the net. Cerezo had some decent chances after the 1st goal, Verdy could have equalised after a good run down the left wing – the ball was crossed in and Sawai got a head onto the ball and then somehow the Cerezo GK saved it and just went past the post – the Cerezo GK did well to push the ball onto the post – what a chance for Verdy, Vieira had a good chance just before half time but it was just over the bar. In the 2nd half a FK for Verdy – it was a great strike by Yoshiaki Takagi but the Cerezo GK had it covered – the Cerezo GK had to be called on again after Koki Anzai had a great shot which could have gone into the top corner of the net, but then Cerezo went 2-0 up – a ball was played into the box and there was Yuzo Tashiro to put the ball into the back of the net. On the 83rd minute – Hideki Nagai came on for his last home game before he retired – what a legend he is – I would like to wish him all the very best and thank him for all the efforts for the past 24 years of his footballing career ( 5 times he’s played for a Verdy club under different names), Yoshiaki Takagi had a great chance that hit the bar and went over but Verdy got back into the game in injury time after there was some lovely football between Y Takagi/Nagai/D Takagi and then to the goalscorer Naoto Sawai who put the ball throught the Cerezo GK’s legs, but it was too little too late – so that was the last home game of the 2016 Season.
