Matchday 10 2017 Review – Avispa Fukuoka 1-0 Tokyo Verdy

Verdy lost by a single goal to Avispa Fukuoka with just under 10 minutes to go, after getting the 3 points back last weekend, it’s back down to earth with a bump against a team who probably are expected to be at least in the top 5 at the end of the season, let’s take a look at the game, the first chance of the game came for Verdy, the corner came to Kazuki Anzai and he blazed it over the cross bar, Izhizu of Avispa found his chance to go over the bar as well after some lovely passing play by Avispa, a quick Verdy free kick almost caught out the Avispa defence but were saved when Avispa GK Sugiyama stopped Taira’s header, Avispa had the next 2 chances – the first one saw a cross into the Verdy box and Saneto though he had scored after he headed the cross towards the goal and it bounced off the crossbar and it seemed to have bounced on the line and Verdy DF’s cleared it, second chance for Avispa was from a Komano free kick but Shibasaki palmed it away. Into the second half and Avispa again hit the woodwork, but Avispa got themselves the 3 points after a cross up field found a Avispa player at the right hand side of the Verdy box, he crossed it, it found the head of Wellington and the header went past a scrambling Shibasaki but he couldn’t get anywhere near the ball to make it 1-0 Avispa, Verdy had themselves a free kick but Vieira put the header just wide but then the final whistle came and it was Avispa who took all 3 points, onto the next game for Verdy, it’s the first of 2 home games in a row against Kanazawa and then Yokohama FC at home.
