Matchday 45 (Play Off Final) 2018 Season Review – Jubilo Iwata 2-0 Tokyo Verdy

Matchday 45 (Play Off Final) 2018 Season Review – Jubilo Iwata 2-0 Tokyo Verdy

Verdy couldn’t replicate the playoff wins over fellow J2 sides Omiya and Yokohama and get into J1 – the lads just couldn’t beat Jubilo Iwata on the day, so they (Iwata) will be playing in J1 while Verdy will be in JLeague Division 2 for the 2019 Season, a few days later the club announced that Miguel Angel Lotina and Ivan Palanco Santiago would be leaving Verdy after a couple of seasons in charge, after getting Verdy in the Top 10 in those 2 seasons deserves a massive thank you for getting the boys in Green up there in the playoff picture each time – in Lotina/Santiago first season, they got Verdy into 5th place with 70 points but lost to Avispa in the Semi Final of the PlayOff’s while the 2018 Season – Lotina and Santiago with Verdy went one better and getting into the final with a different type of a playoff system (which I don’t think works that well).
To The Game itself, it was Verdy who was first chance on goal when a long ball up the field found Douglas Vieira but he could get the ball past the Kaminski and the Iwata defender, there was some flowing football from Iwata ultimately led to Naoto Kamifukumoto giving away a penalty just before half time and it was scored by Koki Ogawa by sending Kamifukumoto the wrong way to make it 1-0 to the home team, into the second half and it was another chance for Iwata when Koki Ogawa put his chance just wide, Verdy then had a good chance when a free kick came into the box and the ball fell to Leandro and his shot was saved by Kaminski, there was another chance for Ogawa but was well saved by Kamifukumoto and Iwata hit the cross bar from a shot by Yoshito Okubo but it 10 minutes to go, Taishi Taguchi scored a free kick to seal Iwata place in J1 and Verdy stay in J2. What a disappointment for Verdy in the end after having such a amazing season overall after getting so far into the playoffs and coming up short

Just a massive thank you to the Tokyo Verdy Management/Players/Staff and especially the fans for a amazing 2018 Season – All the best to Lotina and Santiago for the 2 seasons and I would like to wish them all the very best for the future.

Matchday 45 (Play Off Final) 2018 Season Preview – Jubilo Iwata v Tokyo Verdy

Verdy’s 48th and last game of the 2018 season is Away to Jubilo Iwata at Yamaha Stadium. This is it! Verdy are in the final of the J1/J2 Play Off’s, after the 1-0 wins over Omiya and Yokohama, Verdy go into the game against Jubilo Iwata on the back of a 42 game J2 season and 3 Emperors Cup games and a extra 2 playoff games and now it’s the final game of the season and it’s a big one with a chance of getting promoted into JLeague Division 1 or staying in Division 2, all that stands between going up to J1 or staying in J2 is 90 minutes of football, the last game Jubilo Iwata played was a 2-1 loss to the J1 Champions (see Look At Our Opponents below), the last time these 2 teams met was all the way back in the 2015 J2 Season and Iwata beat Verdy twice in that season – Iwata won at home 2-0 and Iwata won at Ajinomoto Stadium 3-0 but who knows what it’s going to be like tomorrow, it’s going to be so nerve racking for both clubs, let’s hope it will be a good game, fingers crossed Verdy can do the job. LET’S FIGHT TOWARDS VICTORY.

A 2-1 loss to Kawasaki Frontale saw Jubilo Iwata finish down in the J1/J2 Play Off Final, but it was Iwata who scored first with Yoshito Okubo on the 78th minute but minutes later Frontale got their equaliser when Tatsuki Nara scored on the 83rd minute but in injury time it was Frontale who got all 3 points thanks to a Own Goal in the 94th minute sealed Iwata’s place in the playoffs and loses out by goal difference.

Matchday 44 (Play Off 2nd Round) 2018 Season Review – Yokohama FC 0-1 Tokyo Verdy

Matchday 44 (2nd Round Place Off) 2018 Season Review – Yokohama FC 0-1 Tokyo Verdy

Verdy qualified for the J1/J2 Play Off Final with a stunning win over Yokohama FC after scoring a very late goal when a corner for Verdy found the head of Verdy’s own goalkeeper Naoto Kamifukumoto which created the goal that Douglas Vieira put into the back of the net to send Verdy into the final, to the game itself, it was Yokohama FC who got the first chance of the game when a cross into the box found the head of Yokohama striker Ibba and his header hit the post and was cleared away, so close for Yokohama in the first half, there was a decent chance for Verdy but the Yokohama defence stayed strong and blocked Ryohei Hayashi’s shot, then Verdy had a chance after Yuta Narawa’s cross into the box and the ball fell to Leandro who tried to half volley it but it didn’t get very far and was cleared away by the Yokohama Defence, Verdy then had a free kick and was taken by Yuhei Sato and the Yokohama GK Yuta Minami palmed the ball well away from his goal, it was a free kick from Yuhei Sato again which was cleared away by the Yokohama Defence and it started a counter attack and at the end of the counter attack the ball found Kengo Kitazume who shot from the right hand side of the box and Naoto Kamifukumoto was at the far post and pushed it out for a corner, Yokohama had another good chance after a Yokohama player had a shot blocked, he got the ball back and then crossed the ball into the box and then the Yokohama player in the box put his shot over the bar, Yokohama went really close when a mistake by a Verdy Defender Akira Ibayashi failed to clear the ball and the Yokohama midfielder Yuji Senuma put his chance just wide of the post and went out for a goal kick – Ibayashi just put him off enough for him to miss, very late on into the game and with time running out, Kamifukumoto even came up for the Verdy corner, the corner came in and the ball found the head of the Verdy GK Kamifukumoto and he headed the ball towards the Yokohama goal, Minami dropped the ball right in front of Douglas Vieira who came on 20 minutes before this, Vieira was not marked by Yokohama Defenders and he put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Verdy in the 96th minute of the game, the Verdy fans went crazy and Vieira jumped into the crowd to celebrate with everyone and Verdy players also celebrated with Kamifukumoto as he created the goal to win the game, what a end to the game! I even started celebrating like mad at home when Vieira scored that goal! Verdy now move onto the Play Off Final against Jubilo Iwata who finished 16th in J1 on the final Matchday of the season.

Now it’s the Second Round of the play off’s and Verdy travel to Yokohama after beating Omiya in the First Round with a 1-0 win even though Uchida got sent off for 2 yellow cards but still went on to win the game, Yokohama finished Third in the J2 League after the 1-0 win over Ventforet Kofu (see Look At Our Opponents below), the head to head between the 2 teams in the 2018 Season is in Matchday 17 where Yokohama and Verdy drew 2-2 at NHK Spring Stadium – Verdy scorers were Yuhei Sato (14’) and Yong Jing Lee (90’ +5’), Yokohama scorers were Kensuke Sato (57’) and Toshima (74’) and then in Matchday 22 it was Verdy who won 2-1 at Ajinomoto Stadium with a OG (5’) and Izumisawa (70’) scoring the 2 goals for Verdy and Laajab (81’) scoring the only goal of the game for Yokohama, let’s hope Verdy can get to the final of the play off’s but Yokohama will be a tough test but Verdy have done well against them this season, let’s hope for the victory, fingers crossed. Matchday 43 (1st Round Place Off) 2018 Season Review – Omiya Ardija 0-1 Tokyo Verdy

Verdy qualified for the Semi Final of the Play Off’s with a 1-0 win over Omiya Ardija when the only goal of the game came with 20 minutes to go of the game as Tomohiro Taira scored the goal to put the away side into the Semi final of the playoff’s and Verdy go onto face Yokohama FC at the weekend at the NHK Spring Stadium, to the game itself, from a Verdy corner, the ball was blocked and then the ball came back to the corner taker and then passed to Shion Inoue, his shot went well over the bar, then it was Yuhei Sato who had Verdy’s next chance – after some skill to get away from his defender, he had a shot which went wide, Omiya had a decent chance after a free kick and Verdy GK Naoto Kamifukumoto punched the ball away and the Omiya put in another cross into the box to Hiroto Hatao to have a shot but a Verdy Defender deflected it out for a corner but nothing came of it, into the second half, Tatsuya Uchida hit a shot that went well over the bar, but after this he was yellow carded and received a Red Card, seems a very harsh second yellow, but Verdy were down to 10 men for 30 minutes of the second half, with Verdy down to 10 men, Yuta Mikado got the ball off a Verdy player and then passed it to Mateus and he ran towards the Verdy goal but blasted his shot over the bar, Verdy got themselves a free kick on the left had side of the box, Sato took the free kick and then the ball found the head of Tomohiro Taira (seem liked he didn’t touch it but replays showed he did) and the ball went into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Verdy with about 20 minutes to go, Taira put his body on the line went a attempted bicycle kick by Genki Omae, Omae hit Taira not meaning to but Taira got the header away and got a free kick for his troubles, Omiya were desperate to get the equaliser, a long cross into the box and Kamifukumoto came along way out of his goal to try and punch it away but the ball found Takamitsu Tomiyama and he headed the ball towards the goal but second half sub Masashi Wakasa cleared the ball away off the line somehow, it was heart in mouth moment for both set of fans when a ball into the box for Robin Simovic, he controlled it on his chest and swivelled his body and shot which a Verdy DF was behind him and he hit the post but that was the last action and the Verdy Management got into a huddle after the full time whistle while the Verdy players were so pleased and were highfiving and hugging each other, great result by everyone involved, while the Omiya players looked dejected, whatever happens next weekend with Yokohama, I would like to wish Omiya all the best for next season.

Verdy’s 46th game of the 2018 season is Away to Omiya Ardija at Nack 5 Stadium. Verdy see themselves with a away game to Omiya Ardija in the Play Off 1st Round where whoever wins will play Yokohama FC in the Semi Final (because of Zelvia not having a J1 Licence – they can’t compete in the play off – they would have been facing Yokohama), Omiya can go through even if they draw the game as they finished above Verdy in J2 Table, in the last Matchday (42), Omiya came away from Okayama with a 1-0 win which put them in 5th place and qualifying for a playoff place while Verdy drew 1-1 with fellow Tokyo team Machida Zelvia to seal the final play off place while Avispa Fukuoka missed out by only a point, in the head to head between both teams for the 2018 Season, Omiya and Verdy won 1 home game against each other, Omiya won 2-0 with Simovic (49’) and Mateus (89’) getting the goals back in Matchday 11 (Sat 24th April) but Verdy won their home game on Matchday 27 (Sat 4th August) when they won 2-1 when Alan Pinheiro (12’) and Douglas Vieira (45’ +3’) scored for Verdy and Mikado (71’) scored the only goal for Omiya. Let’s hope it will be a good game and hope Verdy can get through to the Semi Final but it will be a very tough game, fingers crossed the lads can do it. LET’S FIGHT TOWARDS VICTORY.

Matchday 42 2018 Season Review – Machida Zelvia 1-1 Tokyo Verdy

Verdy qualified for the play off’s when Verdy drew with Machida Zelvia and with Avispa only drawing 0-0 away to FC Gifu, Verdy finished 6th (19 wins, 14 draws and 9 losses with +15 Goal Difference) in the table and visit Omiya in the 1st Round on Sunday 25th November, to the game itself, it was a chance for Machida Zelvia when a shot from Hirofumi Yamauchi just outside and was saved by Naoto Kamifukumoto and it was another chance for Zelvia when a cross from a corner found the head of Kota Fukatsu but his header went wide, now into the second half, with 15 minutes to go of the game, Verdy took the lead thanks to a long ball into the box and the ball found Ryohei Hayashi and Ryohei chipped the Zelvia GK Koki Fukui and the ball went into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Verdy but the lead didn’t last long (6 minutes to be exact) when Machida Zelvia equalised after some 1-2 passing football and the ball was crossed into the box by Romero Frank and then Naoki Otani got the ball and found the back of the net to make it 1-1 with 8 minutes to go, but the final whistle went and it finished 1-1 and Verdy qualified for the play off’s while Machida finished in the top 4 but can’t take part in the play off’s due to not having a a J1 License but it’s been a good season for our Tokyo neighbours and almost could of won the league if results went their way but it’s been a good season for both Verdy and Zelvia overall.

Matchday 42 2018 Season Preview – Machida Zelvia v Tokyo Verdy

Verdy’s 45th and final game of the regular 2018 season is Away to Machida Zelvia at Machida Stadium. Well it’s the final game of the regular season and it’s away to our local rivals in Machida Zelvia, considering Zelvia can’t go up into J1 as they don’t have a J1 License but they have done well for themselves with a top 5 finish and yet they could actually win the league if they beat Verdy and results go their way, the last game for Zelvia was a 2-0 win away to Ehime FC with 2 late goals in the game (see Look At Our Opponents below) while Verdy won their last game with a 1-0 win over Kamatamare Sanuki with the only goal coming from Akira Ibayashi, the last time Verdy and Machida played each other was in Matchday 12 (Thursday 3rd May) and Machida won 4-1, Ryota Hayashi scoring Verdy’s only goal – Yoshihama (2), Morimura and Nakashima with the goals for Zelvia, let’s hope Verdy can something from this game, either a win or at least a draw and hope results go the way for Verdy and can secure a playoff spot. Matchday 41 2018 Season Review – Tokyo Verdy 1-0 Kamatamare Sanuki

Matchday 41 2018 Season Review – Tokyo Verdy 1-0 Kamatamare Sanuki

Verdy got back to winning ways in a important way with it being the last home game of the 2018 regular season but it kept Verdy in the playoff zone with the 1-0 win over Kamatamare Sanuki with one game to go and it’s not too far away in Machida Zelvia, to the game itself, the first chance of the game when Kota Watanabe got the ball ahead of a Sanuki DF and he was through on goal but the Sanuki GK Kenta Shimizu saved with his legs, but Sanuki went really close when Wataru Sasaki shot from about 35 yards or so (could be more), his shot hit the cross bar and came back out, probably the best chance of the game so far, Verdy came up with the only goal of the game after a long ball into the box and the ball found the head of Tomohiro Taira and the ball found the foot of Akira Ibayashi and he half volleyed it into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Into the second half, Sanuki though they equalised but Daigo Watanabe was flagged offside and then another chance for Sanuki but the second half sub Kazuki Ganaha skied it over the bar and then the final whistle came and it was 3 points for Verdy with the last game coming up this weekend.

Matchday 41 2018 Season Preview – Tokyo Verdy v Kamatamare Sanuki

Matchday 41 2018 Season Preview – Tokyo Verdy v Kamatamare Sanuki

Verdy’s 44th game of the 2018 season is at Home to Kamatamare Sanuki at Ajinomoto Stadium. With only 1 Home and Away game to go of the regular season, it’s a chance for Verdy to try and seal a playoff zone from the final 2 games, first up, Verdy face Kamatamare Sanuki at Ajinomoto Stadium to try and keep themselves in the playoff zone, Verdy come into the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to First place Matsumoto Yamaga and Sanuki come into this game on the back of a loss at home to Tochigi SC (see Look At Our Opponents below), with some of the playoff zone teams playing on the Saturday and Sunday, Verdy will want to win the game against Sanuki to keep them in pursuit of finishing in the top 6 of the table after getting into the top 6 last season – while Verdy are trying to stay in the playoff zone, Sanuki are looking in the face of relegation with only 2 games to go, it’s looking like J3 next season for both Sanuki and Kumamoto – both teams can’t catch Kyoto or Gifu who are both 9 points ahead but Sanuki will want to try and stop Verdy in getting that playoff place, so let’s hope Verdy can get the right result, fingers crossed. LET’S FIGHT TOWARDS VICTORY.
